Pledging, even though I can’t win.
As a prize supplier I can’t actually enter the Zero Waste competition, but that doesn’t stop me pledging!
I’m going to learn to knit…..
I already use washable dishcloths and tea towels in the kitchen and a friend made me a couple of lovely crocheted and knitted dishcloths. This friend is Kris who owns and runs EcoKnits - go take a look, she has loads of lovely things on there from the most tactile needles to the most adorably squishable yarn….
Anyway, I love the dishcloths she made me and want more - so she’s going to teach me to make them.
I also need your help. Every Christmas I send a parcel of gifts to the women in a refuge managed by another friend and this year I want to send scarves. Now I could just go and get some from a shop, but how much nicer would it be if some of my readers here could make them? I’ll need 10 for the refuge I’m currently supporting but if I can manage more then maybe I can extend the idea further afield?
Any knitters out there who could help? If my knitting lessons go well then I’ll make at least one!

Very cool pledge and thank you for the coverage on our site - you may just have earned yourself some MoreEco points
I’d love to say yes to donating you a scarf. I have no idea if I will be able to achieve it, but I will give it a go. HOw many stitches do I need to cast on to make a scarf?

32?

Does that help?

You don’t even need to follow a pattern like that. Casting on 30 to 40 stitches, and then knitting every row will give you a perfectly good scarf. The key is choosing nice yarn - soft, without fluffy bits to get up your nose, and warm.
If you want help, just ask.

Hi Kris my knitting teacher!
Fluffy bits are ok if you like a fluffy scarf - but it’d have to be machine washable really for this project.

Thank you ladies; I shall see what I can do. 30 - 40 stitches it is!
